Durango over the 4th of July Weekend

Durango July 4th Weekend

We flew up to Durango on Thursday July 3rd. On board were Jenni, Mason, Florence and Greg. We had to leave Ian and Alyssa home due to work obligations. They are both lifeguarding this summer.

On Friday we hiked up the engineer mountain trail starting just below the runaway truck ramp and went up to where it connects ups with the Coal Bank pass trail. About 6 miles each way (12 miles hiking round trip). The trail starts at around 9,000 ft. and climbs to around 11,700 ft up top.

Here is the view from the top
We didn't get any rain, but it was cold and breezy up top

Florence always likes a picture of the wild flowers along the trail

On Saturday morning (July 4th) we hiked down the Purgatory trail to the Animas River and ate lunch on the bridge.

We didn't see any rafters today going down the river. There were a couple of fishermen having great success.

We heard the whistle of the train and ran over to the tracks and filmed this video of the train steaming by.
