The coastal trail from Manarola to Corniglia is still destroyed from the big flood a few years ago. Most everyone just takes the train. That would be too easy. Instead we found an alternate trail. Sure it is 4x as long to get to Corniglia. Sure it climbs 1,200 ft. in elevation. But without taking that upper little used trail we would not have found this cool church built in the thirteenth century in the middle of nowhere.
The trail winds through olive groves, vineyards and little farms way up high on the mountains.
We even found some bing cherries along the trail that were ripe and ready to eat.
Florence picked this house out as her favorite. The reason
1. It takes 30 mins to hike to it from the closest road
2. It has mowed and manicured grass
3. How about those views!!!!
She said she will ask Ian to buy it as his italian villa and then borrow it from time to time.

Here is our train station at Manarola. Comes out of a tunnel and lets us off and on. Then back into another tunnel.
With about 12 miles of hiking today and lots of ups and downs we were ready for dinner. Fresh caprisi salad anyone?
And of course a gelato. Actually we had two today but who's counting. When in Rome do as the Romans.
