Omis and the Cetina river day 2

We woke up with the sun at 6 am and went out wandering the city, the waterfront, etc. Florence saw a cute dressed up walker out so she determined to followed her. Florence figured she would know the best walking route. I told her she was a secret agent that would know she was being followed. Looks like Florence was right.

So our hotel is on the top of its own little mountain. Over 100 steps to get to the front door.

Here is our hotel from the old town on the other side of the river. A great location.

I wish I had more pics of our canyoneering experience but my Go Pro camera must have been activated in our luggage somehow and ran the battery out. Note to self. Remove battery before packing the Go Pro next time as well as bring a charging cord. For anyone who has done Hell's Gate, that is basically what we did today. We followed the canyon down swimming through rapids, rock jumping, we even jumped off 40-50 ft. Cliff and I only did it because we were dressed in plenty of padding. It was a great time had by all lasting about 4 hrs.

After the canyoneering experience we had a lunch of fish soup, a fish platter for two that included Mussels, sea bass and calamari. It was all amazingly great food!

We were then left on our own for the afternoon. What to do? Get a nap in the hot afternoon? Hang by the beach or river? Shop? Nah. We hiked up to the fort over 1,000 ft above the city.

Here is the view from the top. The sign said 45 mins up the trail. It took us 30. But we were soaked and hot. It was well over 90 degrees today here When we got up top the place look deserted except for a sign demanding 15 Kunas/person as an entrance fee. But who to pay? Turns out a gal hikes up there each day to collect admission to the few that tackle the hike up. Doesn't strike me as efficient but hey, I'm not in charge.

The town of Omis where we have been staying for two nights was the home of the pirates in this area. That is what this area is known for.
These fortresses were built in the 1300's and later used as a defense by the pirates.

After hiking down a different way we tackled the Lower fortress just above old town.

A hot hot sweaty day of hiking.

We rewarded ourselves with another piece of chocolate cake. Oh yea!!!

We saw an advertisement for a choir concert tonight at the local cathedral so we attended. Other than a few "avi Maria's and halajula's didn't get much out of the words.

So we left half way through and comforted ourselves with a gelato.

Tomorrow back to Split and then a night ferry back to Italy.

Goodnight.

What a bad time for a dead battery!! Sounds like fun though!
